RLC Labs, Inc. has voluntarily recalled over 400 lots of Nature-Thyroid in all strengths, all counts of product, within current expiration dating to the consumer level. The products are being recalled because testing of samples from six lots by the FDA found the samples to be sub-potent. The product may have as low as 87% of the labeled amount of Liothyronine (T3) or Levothyroxine (T4). For more information on the recall click below.
Many patients have tried other types of thyroid hormones such as levothyroxine and liothyronine, and have found that Desiccated Natural thyroid works best for them, reporting that they simply do not feel as well when they take levothyroxine alone or with liothyronine.
The Theory behind the use of synthetic T4 alone (levothyroxine) is that the thyroid makes T4 which is converted to T3 elsewhere in the body. However, in some people the conversion to T3 may be inadequate, and T3 is supplemented. Synthetic T3 (liothyronine) is commercially available only as an immediate acting preparation, which often causes undesirable side effects including heart palpitations (feels like your heart is racing). Therefore, some physicians have asked our compounding pharmacy to prepare a long-acting form of T3. Many patients and their physicians have found that T4 and T3 (liothyronine) alone or in a combination using commercially available dosages have not worked adequately for them, but they have responded well to a blend of T4 and t3 that meets their physiological requirements.
